Katherine
Newton

She works installatively, mingling sounds with spaces
and filmic works. Her videos emerge with the spherical
anti-pop pieces. Spaces reverberate like a memory
of sound.
Katherine collects sounds from her environment, which she screws together into musical sounds, puts her voice on top, alienates again.
She observes a great deal, setting a focus outward. Processual and performative facets combined with sculpture, movement or interaction are essential components, with the aim of creating an immersive atmosphere that allows for a multi-sensory exploration
of her work.
However, in a lot of her process she turned her gaze inwards. She uses identity, vulnerability, shame, gender, rhythm, humor or harshness. She explores ideas „right to the emotions, the actual vulnerability that you might not think is cool at all“.
